Nisshinbo Micro Devices

Exeger and Nisshinbo Micro Devices partner to produce maintenance-free IoT devices, combining their respective strengths in energy harvesting and ultra-efficient electronics.

Inside the Partnership

Exeger and Nisshinbo Micro Devices have partnered to produce maintenance-free IoT devices, combining their respective strengths in energy harvesting and ultra-efficient electronics. Nisshinbo brings a wide portfolio of low-power technologies, such as power management ICs, operational amplifiers, Li-ion battery protection ICs, high-performance LSIs and component products using microwave technology, while Exeger contributes its Powerfoyle Indoor solar cells, which have been optimized for indoor settings.

Together, the two companies are helping customers accelerate time to market by offering a seamless path to energy-autonomous product design. The integration of Nisshinbo’s power-efficient solutions with Powerfoyle’s light-harvesting capabilities opens up significant opportunities in the growing IoT sector, showcasing the real-world potential of clean, endless energy.

“One of our core competences is ultra-low current consumption, which enables the customer to develop not only eco-friendly products, but also the products that could not be deployed due to power budget. With Powerfoyle and our technology, we strongly believe that we can cultivate a new Internet of Things market.”

The first demo product resulting from the partnership is a sensor board using the coupled technologies, which was showcased at Electronica in Münich, Germany, in November 2022. The board is based on Nisshinbo’s RIOT-002 Environment Sensing Board that can send sensor data including temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, illuminance, and 3-axis acceleration to tablets and other devices via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). Environmental data loggers and electronic shelf tags are two target applications that can benefit from this partnership.
