In 2023, Exeger partnered with Ohsung Electronics to introduce REY – a battery-free, light-powered TV remote control, unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2023 in Las Vegas.
Designed with Exeger’s Powerfoyle solar cell technology, REY represents a major step forward in sustainable consumer electronics. Powerfoyle converts all forms of light – both natural and indoor – into clean, endless energy, eliminating the need for disposable batteries. Optimized for low-light environments, Powerfoyle Indoor ensures that REY remains powered even under typical indoor lighting conditions.
The collaboration between Ohsung and Exeger allowed the creation of a remote that couples Powerfoyle with a hybrid supercapacitor, delivering a fully self-powered, maintenance-free user experience. The design flexibility of Powerfoyle also enabled Ohsung to maintain the aesthetic standards expected by global brands.
The REY remote exemplifies the partners’ shared commitment to sustainability, with the potential to prevent billions of disposable remote-control batteries from entering landfills each year. Together, Exeger and Ohsung are setting a new industry standard, driving the shift toward battery-free, sustainable consumer electronics.
