Exeger and Semtech deliver more efficient and sustainable IoT tracking solutions by combining Exeger’s Powerfoyle solar cell technology with Semtech’s LoRa Edge chip-to-Cloud platform.

Inside the Partnership

Exeger and Semtech have partnered to deliver more efficient and sustainable IoT tracking solutions by combining Exeger’s Powerfoyle solar cell technology with Semtech’s LoRa Edge chip-to-Cloud platform. This collaboration aims to create a new standard for environmentally-friendly platforms for the IoT industry by significantly extending, or even eliminating, the need for battery replacements in asset tracking and environmental sensing devices.

Semtech’s LoRa Edge platform offers ultra-low power geolocation capabilities by offloading location processing to the cloud, while Powerfoyle provides a clean, endless energy source by converting all forms of light – both indoor and outdoor – into electricity. Together, the technologies enable a new class of energy-autonomous IoT devices with dramatically reduced environmental impact.

This integration opens the door to a wide range of solar-powered applications across asset tracking, global logistics, smart agriculture, smart utilities, and smart cities. By merging clean energy with low-power connectivity, Exeger and Semtech are setting a new standard for sustainable innovation in the IoT industry.

“Semtech and Exeger’s collaboration will enable manufacturers to develop IoT devices leveraging new energy harvesting technology for a smarter and more sustainable future.”

Marc Pégulu, Vice President and General Manager, Semtech’s Wireless and Sensing Products Group

Building on its collaboration with Semtech, Exeger has joined forces with NGK, Tachibana Electronic Solutions, and Semtech to co-develop a groundbreaking indoor/outdoor position tracker. This partnership brings together each company’s unique expertise to create a maintenance-free, ultra-thin, and compact device designed to advance the future of IoT tracking solutions.

The tracker integrates Exeger’s Powerfoyle solar cells with NGK’s ultra-thin and compact EnerCera® lithium-ion rechargeable battery to form a powerful self-sustaining energy system. It operates an ultra-thin board based on the Zero Carbon LoRa® Evaluation Board circuit board sold by Tachibana, using Semtech’s LoRa® connectivity IC and the LoRa Edge LR1110.

Thanks to this seamless integration of technologies, the tracker eliminates the need for manual charging or battery replacements. In addition to accurate positioning, it can record environmental data such as temperature, humidity, and impact, transmitting everything via LoRa® to the cloud for real-time analysis. With a profile of just six millimeters, it is ideal for applications in logistics, wearables, and other space-constrained use cases.
