In May 2023, Exeger and SMK announced a strategic partnership to develop a range of light-powered remote controls. SMK has chosen Exeger as its preferred partner for solar cell-powered products, recognizing Exeger’s large-scale production capabilities and proven track record of quality products on the market with high efficiency and freedom of design.
This collaboration represents a major step toward greater sustainability and convenience in consumer electronics. According to research from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Americans discard more than three billion batteries annually – an average of 24 batteries per household. By integrating Exeger’s Powerfoyle technology, Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs) like SMK Group can offer self-charging products that eliminate the need for disposable batteries, reducing environmental impact while significantly enhancing user convenience.
In January 2025, Exeger and SMK unveiled the first proof-of-concept from their collaboration: the world’s first air conditioner remote control powered by Powerfoyle. Presented at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, this innovative device eliminates the need for disposable batteries, offering a maintenance-free and sustainable solution.

Thanks to Exeger’s flexible solar cell design and engineering support, SMK achieved full creative freedom in developing a compact, energy-efficient solution. Designed with a customized Powerfoyle solar cell, the remote combines SMK’s Bluetooth technology, an E-Paper low-power display, and Powerfoyle’s high-efficiency energy harvesting technology for optimal performance. The integration of Powerfoyle allows the remote to operate reliably even in indoor environments, offering a maintenance-free, cost-effective, and sustainable alternative, particularly for public facilities where battery replacement and wiring work can be costly.
