SMART HELMETS

A solar-powered smart helmet can act as an always-on copilot, delivering enhanced impact protection along with lights, navigation, music, safety alerts and more – all without the need for charging.

At Exeger, we have invented a solar cell that converts all forms of light into electrical power, which unlocks potentially endless battery life for safety helmets with advanced features and connectivity. Our solar cell, called Powerfoyle, is environmentally friendly and is durable to withstand rugged conditions for a long product life.

Continuous charging from surrounding light ensures equipment is always ready to use

Integrated power allows for enhanced safety and communications features

Eliminate or reduce the need for charging from cords or disposable batteries

WHY SMART HELMETS?

Helmets have long been essential for protection, but now they’re evolving into powerful platforms for advanced functionality. As industries and individuals demand more from their gear, helmets are no longer just passive protection – they’re active participants in safety, productivity and connectivity.

In addition to personal applications such as sports, cycling and motorcycling, smart helmets are making waves across many commercial industries, such as construction, emergency response, and delivery services. In these cases where safety, efficiency, and connectivity are mission-critical, a smart helmet that is always ready to use – no charging or battery changes necessary – can be a game-changer.

“Integrating Powerfoyle opens a world of new opportunities, creating helmets with an endless power source.”

WHAT DOES A SMART HELMET DO?

Smart helmets are a prime example of how the wave of connected devices is transforming everyday products into intelligent, experience-enhancing tools. Instead of performing a single function – head protection – they seamlessly integrate advanced technologies that enhance safety, incorporate connectivity, and improve experiences.

Equipped with features like GPS-enabled real-time navigation, Bluetooth communication, voice control, crash detection and more, smart helmets allow users to stay informed and connected without taking their eyes off the road or interrupting their tasks. For urban commuters and delivery riders, this can mean faster and safer travel. For industries like construction or firefighting, smart helmets may include environmental sensors, heat monitoring, fall detection, and live video streaming for remote collaboration. Looking ahead, AI integrations could take these features even further in the near future.

In essence, smart helmets transform a passive safety device into an intelligent, all-in-one tool for navigation, communication, and real-time situational awareness.

ENDLESS ENERGY FOR READY-TO-GO SAFETY

Currently, the full potential of smart helmets remains largely untapped. Many of the transformative features – including real-time environmental sensing, computer vision, and on-device AI for predictive alerts – are heavily power-intensive. Until now, these capabilities have been limited by battery life, weight and the inconvenience of frequent charging. The solution: lightweight yet powerful solar cells that are integrated directly into helmets.

With Powerfoyle solar cells integrated into helmets, they can charge in all light conditions, from natural outdoor light to artificial indoor light. Powerfoyle is highly efficient, packing powerful energy performance into a compact surface area. This always-on charging reduces or eliminates the need for traditional charging from cords or disposable batteries and gives users the confidence that their device is always ready to use.

Thanks to the integrated power source, Powerfoyle unlocks the next generation of smart helmets: lighter, safer and more intelligent. There’s no need for bulky battery packs or limited runtime. Instead, manufacturers can confidently include advanced sensors, connectivity and AI capabilities. With the benefit of endless clean energy, Powerfoyle paves the way for smarter, more effective protective equipment.

IN THE NEWS: EXEGER AND COSONIC PARTNER TO LAUNCH SOLAR-POWERED HELMET FOR TWO-WHEEL RIDERS IN CHINA

In January 2025, we announced a partnership with global consumer electronics manufacturer Cosonic. This collaboration will initially cater to China’s delivery workforce of over 15 million riders with a solar-powered smart helmet solution packed with unique safety, audio and communication enhancements.

DURABLE SOLAR CELLS FOR DURABLE PRODUCTS

For equipment that is often used in rugged conditions and long hours, a high standard of quality and durability is essential. Powerfoyle solar cells stand up to that challenge.

Unlike most solar cells, Powerfoyle is designed to be flexible and resilient. Since the solar cell is able to withstand bending, it integrates perfectly into helmets. We perform extensive quality testing to ensure resistance to the wear and tear of everyday use. Products with Powerfoyle can be built to be water-resistant and hold up to sweat, dust and other elements.

NO COMPROMISE ON DESIGN

ANY SHAPE, SIZE AND TEXTURE

When it comes to Powerfoyle’s design, anything is possible. Our thin and flexible solar cells can be produced in any size, shape or texture. For example, it can look like leather, brushed steel or fabric. Additionally, logos or other graphics can be printed directly onto the top cell layer with minimal effect on the performance

NO SILVER LINES

By rearranging the layers of the dye-sensitized solar cell type, we have removed the need for silver lines and made nearly 100% of our cell area active, so that it is more efficient and works even in partially shaded conditions.

Industrial Scale Production

With industrial-scale production at our two factories in Stockholm, we can cover all your store needs. We can produce up to 2.5 million square meters of Powerfoyle annually.

THE FUTURE OF SMART HELMETS: SUSTAINABILITY AND BEYOND

As we look toward the future, the integration of solar-powered technology into smart helmets represents just the beginning of a broader shift toward sustainable, self-powered personal protective equipment. With the increasing demand for eco-friendly solutions and energy efficiency, solar-powered smart helmets are a timely solution.

With Powerfoyle, we’re not just building a product; we’re building a more sustainable, connected world where innovation meets responsibility. Solar-powered smart helmets will change industries, enhance user experiences, and contribute to a more sustainable future.
