Exeger unveils 20% increase in efficiency for Powerfoyle Indoor solar cell

– Powerfoyle Indoor delivers world leading power into products.

– Powerfoyle Indoor 20% efficiency increase offers customers several benefits.

– Higher efficiency solar cells boost the environmental benefits and opens up for more functionality.

– The increased efficiency demonstrates further industrialization of Exeger’s new factory, Stockholm II.

A new datasheet for Powerfoyle Indoor is now available, offering customers a 20% boost in efficiency. The award-winning platform is designed to optimize power efficiency for low light levels to charge devices that rely on ambient indoor light.

During the past year, production of Powerfoyle started at Exeger’s second factory, Stockholm II, one of Europe’s largest solar cell factories in terms of annual production capacity when fully ramped up (2,5 million square meters per year). Exeger is continuously investing in the industrialization of the two factories. Better machines, improved processes, and higher production capacity yields higher quality solar cells, resulting in a 20% boost in efficiency. Since launching in 2022, Powerfoyle Indoor has been integrated into Ohsung Electronics, Omni Remotes, and Tech4Home remote controls with more products being revealed during 2024.

“The research and development teams are in constant pursuit of excellence and continuously innovate on the chemistry and components of the cell.”

Dr. Henrik Lindström, CTO at Exeger

Dr. Henrik Lindström, CTO at Exeger, says, “Our ongoing commitment to industrialization, innovation and sustainability has enabled this great achievement of enhancing the efficiency of our solar cell by 20% since its commercialization. The research and development teams are in constant pursuit of excellence and continuously innovate on the chemistry and components of the cell. This exciting development reaffirms our dedication to providing customers with clean, endless energy for a brighter and more sustainable future.”

The increase in efficiency of Powerfoyle opens up several attractive options for customers based on the needs of users. The added efficiency can be used to produce smaller Powerfoyle solar cells with the same efficiency as before, boosting the environmental benefits even further. Additionally, Exeger has further reduced Powerfoyle’s carbon footprint by upgrading the components used at the backside of the solar cell to a lower CO2 footprint alternative. With 20% more power available, customers can offer increased functionality in their devices. The increased efficiency also opens up self-charging as an attractive option for even more products.

“Powerfoyle’s superior output in a product is one of the reasons world leading companies keep on choosing Exeger as their exclusive partner in our target markets.”

Dr. Georgios Foufas, Chief Commercial Officer

Dr. Georgios Foufas, Chief Commercial Officer, explains, “I am so proud of Exeger for always pushing the boundaries of the indoor solar cell market. Our customers and partners have repeatedly confirmed that when integrated into products, Powerfoyle Indoor clearly delivers the most power compared to other technologies. The integration into products has immense impact on the power delivered into products compared to the efficiency of the standalone solar cell. Powerfoyle’s superior output in a product is one of the reasons world leading companies keep on choosing Exeger as their exclusive partner in our target markets.”

In addition to Powerfoyle Indoor, Exeger also offers Powerfoyle Hybrid. This was the first commercial platform and is designed to be integrated into products that benefit from using both indoor and outdoor light for charging, such as the recently launched self-powered Bluetooth speaker, Urbanista Malibu. Both versions of Powerfoyle can be seamlessly integrated into customer products thanks to the customizable features ranging from free-form shape, textures, thickness, and finish.

The efficiency improvements to Powerfoyle Indoor arrive at a pivotal juncture in Exeger’s commercial journey. In 2023 alone, Exeger signed partnership deals with several world-renowned brands, including 3M, TP Vision (the company responsible for design, manufacturing, and sales of Philips branded TV and audio products), the world’s largest computer peripherals manufacturer, and one of the top 5 brands globally.
