Exeger and adidas Headphones launch self-charging headphones powered by light

Built in part from recycled plastics*, the adidas RPT-02 SOL headphones remove the need for cables and allow consumers to be less reliant on charging from the grid. The headphones are available for purchase from August 23.

AUGUST 16, 2022 – STOCKHOLM – Swedish innovation company Exeger (www.exeger.com), and adidas Headphones (www. adidasheadphones.com), today announce the launch of self-charging headphones that give consumers a long-lasting music experience free from cables.

The adidas RPT-02 SOL has been built in part from recycled plastics* and utilizes Powerfoyle™, Exeger’s groundbreaking solar cell technology that converts all forms of light into energy. So, whether users are outdoors on a run or working out indoors at the gym, the headphones continuously charge.

In addition to its light-harvesting capabilities, the adidas RPT-02 SOL – part of Zound Industries portfolio brands – boasts several other notable features, including a light indicator on the headband which helps detect the strongest light source to generate the best charge. The headphones are also IPX4-rated (sweat-proof and splash-proof) and come equipped with a companion app where users can track charging and battery status in real-time.

Powerfoyle: changing the way we charge

Powerfoyle is an environmentally-friendly solar cell, developed and manufactured in Sweden and made from abundantly available, non-toxic raw materials. Designed for longevity, Powerfoyle undergoes extensive testing to ensure resistance to wear and tear.

Thanks to Powerfoyle’s uniquely flexible design, it has been integrated directly into the headband of adidas RPT-02 SOL. With the integration of Powerfoyle, the need to charge from the wall is significantly reduced and consumers can experience an uninterrupted music experience, free from charging cables.

Giovanni Fili, Founder and CEO of Exeger says, “At Exeger, we’re passionate about developing technologies that benefit both users and the planet.” He continues, “We’re so excited to partner with adidas Headphones and see our Powerfoyle technology come to life through consumer electronics that will be used by people in their everyday lives. This partnership marks yet another step towards bringing Powerfoyle to the masses through sustainable audio products.”

“Light is such a powerful and positive form of energy and it’s extremely exciting that we can now use it to power headphones”, adds Anders Olsson, Product Manager at Zound Industries. “Through our partnership with Exeger, we’ve been able to develop a product that’s truly best-in-class. The headphones are designed for athletes, and it’s been important for us to offer something that allows them to focus on performance without having to worry about the battery in their headphones running out.”

The adidas RPT-02 SOL headphones retail for $229.00 USD / £195.95 GBP and are available for purchase from 23 August 2022 on  adidasheadphones.com and adidas.com.

*51% of the product consists of plastic of which 87% is post-consumer recycled PC-ABS and recycled nylon (excluding plastics in electronic components).
