Exeger and e-peas partner to create energy harvesting solutions for the IoT sector

Exeger, the Swedish deep-tech company behind the revolutionary solar cell technology Powerfoyle™, today announces its partnership with Belgium-based Ultra Low Power Management semiconductor company e-peas.

DECEMBER 21, 2022 – STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN – Exeger’s photovoltaic cells harvest all forms of light and convert it into electrical energy. Powerfoyle can be produced in any shape, size, and form factor to be seamlessly integrated into any electronic device.

“Partnering with e-peas is an important step for the mass adoption of Powerfoyle within the IoT industry. Disposable batteries are a significant hurdle for installing IoT devices while having a significant negative impact on the environment”

Dr Oscar Hemberg, Exeger Chief Product Integration Officer

e-peas are expert in ultra-low power, high efficiency Power Management Integrated Circuits (PMICs) for energy harvesting. Their Ambient Energy Manager (AEM) products portfolio, combined with the complete Energy Harvesting ecosystem provide clear benefits to many industry segments such as consumer electronics, Internet of Things (IoT) and industrial applications.

Both companies are now offering a compact energy harvesting boost converter module optimized for Powerfoyle-powered products, initially focusing on ultra-low power indoor applications. The collaboration aims to simplify the adoption of Powerfoyle for manufacturers and developers and, as a result, eliminates the need for disposable batteries and the associated high costs of battery replacement.

The innovative solution is a mini-stamp form factor evaluation kit, providing out-of-the-box best performances of the combined Powerfoyle + Ambient Energy Manager (PMIC). Developers also have the possibility to further tune the system thanks to I2C interface. It implements an Average Power Monitoring system (APM) allowing the application circuit to get a measure of harvested energy. An optional thermal management sensing is also made available.

Dr Oscar Hemberg, Exeger Chief Product Integration Officer, explains:
“Partnering with e-peas is an important step for the mass adoption of Powerfoyle within the IoT industry. Disposable batteries are a significant hurdle for installing IoT devices while having a significant negative impact on the environment. E-peas and Exeger are offering a complete energy harvesting solution optimized for the IoT. Ultimately, it’s about helping our customers on this journey, shifting to light-powered products in the next generation of connected consumer and industrial devices by offering a simple solution with tremendous value.”

Christian Ferrier, Chief Marketing Officer of e-peas commented:
“We are thrilled to add the Powerfoyle technology of Exeger to our vast energy harvesting ecosystem. Thanks to this long run collaboration with Exeger, we bring to the market a compact, cost-efficient energy solution for replacing disposable batteries and making IoT products maintenance-free. The combination of both technologies demonstrates that the integration of energy harvesting brings significant technology advantages to customers and is the path forward for IoT growth.”
